Welcome to NEXTEXT! The page will help you step through the process of purchasing a 'brick' for the purpose of setting up an SMS ad campaign on this platform.
Start by choosing a map for one of the transit authorities. You will see clickable, coloured bricks with numbers:
Green indicates the brick is available for purchase. Red indicates the brick is unavailable. Yellow indicates the brick is pending purchase or approval. Blue bricks indicate areas that currently do not have the minimum number of texts being requested.
Click on a brick to see the brick ID, number of bus stops, 28-day period, 3-period average, current period price and when it's scheduled to become available (pending non-renewal by existing advertiser). The current price indicates the cost for the brick based on the number of text requests from the last complete 28-day period.
Click on the Add to Cart button to purchase the brick. You can add other bricks on the same map to your cart before proceeding to the checkout. Currently, there is one ad per brick so if you wish to run multiple ads, you will need to set up each campaign separately as each one needs to be approved by a moderator.
Once you have added a brick to your cart, the brick will be reserved for 10 minutes. To ensure you get the brick, click on the cart icon at the top where the timer is counting down and proceed to checkout.
You must accept the NEXTEXT Terms & Conditions as stated on the page in order to proceed through the checkout process.
In order to continue the payment and ad setup, you will require a login. Clicking on the Checkout button will bring you to the cart login. If you have an account, enter your email and password. If this is your first time, you can click the link at the bottom to create an account.
If you are an advertising agency representing many advertisers, click on the link to the right to be sent to our agency sign-up form.
Once you have logged in successfully, you'll be able to set your campaign name and select your campaign dates. Note that NEXTEXT campaigns run on a 28-day cycle and you can purchase up to 10 cycles. If this is your first campaign purchase, the minimum number of cycles you are required to purchase is 3 and the system will automatically mark the end date for 3 cycles.
You can also purchase Click credits if you wish to add shortened URL Click-throughs to your ad to direct users to a NEXTEXT-powered mobile landing page or enable Click-outs from your landing pages to other sites. See our Terms and Conditions for details on Clicks Add-ons.
To complete the purchase of your brick, review your order details. If you have a discount code, enter it into the field and click Update. Complete the Billing Information with your credit card information. Note that your credit card information is not stored in our system and we process payments using PCI-Compliant standards.
Click the Complete Payment button to process your payment.
Once payment is successful, you have the opportunity to create your ad message! You have a maximum number of characters to set up your ad. Each character and space counts towards the 136 character limit of all SMS messages, 100 of which can be for your ad. If you want help crafting your ad message, simply put "Help me with my ad message" and our NEXTEXT sales team will reach out to you.
Click the Save button to submit your campaign for approval. You will be contacted by our team to assist you with the setup of your Click-through and Click-out links. We also provide additional services including mobile web pages and artwork. If you did not purchase a click-through, you will be notified by email when your campaign has been approved by a moderator. At that point, your ads will live as long as the cycle start date has occurred.
You will be taken to your Campaigns dashboard where you can view all your campaigns and filter by Status, Organization, and dates. Options include editing, suspending, or deleting your campaign. Note that if you edit your campaign message, it will be re-submitted for approval by a moderator. If you require a change in your click-through link, please contact us at email@example.com.
To manage campaigns, log into NEXTEXT by clicking on the Login link in the top right corner of any map page or http://nextext.ca/login.
Once you have logged in, you'll see the campaigns dashboard where your campaigns across all transit authorities can be managed. Use the filters to narrow down the list and view different statuses.
Actions on a campaign include Edit Message, Suspend and Delete (Pending status only).
The Clicks column includes the advertiser's Click credits remaining amount, Click-through hits (off the ad message), and Click-out hits (off mobile pages).
The SMS Hits column indicates the number of text requests within that brick/campaign.
View your Click Credits balance or top up by choosing an amount from the drop-down list. Click the purchase button to proceed to the cart checkout and payment page.
To change your account information, click on your username in the top right corner and select My Account.
"We've utilized the NexText platform since July of this year. With its ability to directly connect with transit ridership, we were able to have a conversation with Calgarians, connect them to our website with one click and get them to visit the Genesis Centre. With the ability to change our message frequently, at no cost, we kept the advertisement fresh and current. The geo-targeting ability enabled us to connect with members of the nearby communities; Calgarians who would be more likely to frequent our Centre than those on the other side of town. The mobile analytics showcasing the number of hits and clicks allowed us to see what message was the most effective, and provided tangible, measurable results going forward. We will continue utilizing the NexText platform into 2017."
Glenda Marr - Business Development Manager
"Co-op's Home Health Care Campaign was great... At some point in the future we will definitely consider NexText." The Trial Campaign amassed nearly 20,400 hits and 200 clicks.
Laurie Softley - DSA Media
"This (SAIT) campaign was great, thanks! We are really pleased with the performance of this campaign. We certainly will keep in mind for other clients." Campaign amassed nearly 43,400 hits and 800 clicks.
Michelle Lalonde - Vovia
To request Next Bus times from TransLink, a customer must text a bus stop number and a bus route number to 33333 in order to receive the next two departure times; texting the stop number without a route will return the bus routes that service the stop but no accompanying times.
Text the bus stop number and bus route number to 33333 and within seconds, you'll receive the next two departure times for that bus route at that stop. You must include a bus route number in order to get times.
The predicted departure times are based on the GPS location of the buses and update approximately every two minutes, but sometimes only scheduled times will be available. Scheduled times are marked with an asterisk (*). When a service is cancelled, the arrival time will be marked with a "C".
If you need times for multiple bus routes that service your stop, enter the stop number and up to two bus routes, and text 33333. You'll get the next two departure times for each bus route in separate texts.
You can only request up to two bus routes per text. If three or more bus routes are listed at a stop, and you want times for all of them, an additional text message will need to be sent (example: 54446 240 246 and 54446 241).
For help text "HELP" to 33333.
TransLink also has the Next Bus tool available on www.translink.ca. Next Bus provides scheduled departure times as well as a "stop lookup tool" if you don't know your stop number.
Note: TransLink doesn't charge customers for this service, but standard carrier text messaging charges may apply. To keep costs associated with NexText from being passed along to customers, NexText uses an advertising-based service. When you use NexText, an ad and/or link might appear in the text message. If you don't want to receive these ads, please use TransLink's mobile website for Next Bus times.
In order for Calgary Transit to provide simple and accurate bus arrival times in the NEXTEXT service, the system is changing from accepting just a stop number to requiring the Stop number & Route number. Calgary Transit has a number of stops with multiple routes that returns an array of information that can exceed the limited character count of texting.
NEXTEXT will accept up to two route numbers and the request format couldn't be simpler:
Just type the stop number, space and the route number to 74000.
To request bus times for stop number 7643, text 7643 38 as follows to 74000:
To request bus times for stop number 5778 on routes 20 and 72, text 5778 20 72 as follows to 74000 and receive a response for each route. You can specify up to two routes at a time.
August 2016 - Ongoing
With an inordinate number of gyms and recreation centres throughout the city, Genesis Centre wanted to directly connect with Calgarians in the immediate vicinity and elaborate on the many services and amenities that they offer. They also wanted to promote the PlayCity app, that connects sports enthusiasts to other individuals who are of similar skill set and who are wanting to play now.
With 40 different bus stops in the brick where Genesis is located, the ability to converse with local Taradale and Saddletowne residents via a direct advertising medium could assist in increasing the number of individuals living and/or working nearby to come through the doors.
Brick 0722 was booked and Genesis was able to directly communicate with transit riders in close proximity. From offering 2 for 1 admissions in summer with the mention of the advertisement, to directing Calgarians to the PlayCity page on both google and iPhones app stores for the ability to download with one click.
Genesis has over 30,000+ hits and counting and over 800 clicks. They'll continue utilizing the platform into 2017 and with the ability to change the message, they can promote their upcoming celebrations for Canada's 150th and their venue availability for weddings of all sizes.
October and November 2016
SAIT's representative agency, Vovia was tasked with getting the word out about SAIT's open house in the final week of October. The difficulty arose in ensuring that advertising was connecting with the right demographic.
A 2015 survey of transit riders in Calgary found that 12% of respondents were of the 15-19 age and 20% of respondents utilizing transit to go to and/or from school.
Utilizing NexText's geo-targeting ability, Vovia selected various bricks throughout Calgary that had high schools located within them. Utilizing the ability to change the message an unlimited number of times for no cost, SAIT spoke directly to Calgarians on their mobile devices, and encouraged them to visit the open house and/or apply online for next year.
SAIT accumulated over 37,000 hits and 800 clicks to their website. Vovia declared the campaign a great success and stated that they would definitely look at utilizing the platform for SAIT and other clientele in the near future.
September and October 2016
